Forest School Day 8

19th Nov 2024

Yesterday we learned about the materials used by robins, blackbirds, wood pigeons and dunnocks to make their nests each year. We also learned about their preferred structures and shapes and made sketches of our own nests.

Today we wrapped up warm and headed out to Polepatrick with a mission to build bird nests. We worked in small groups to gather moss, twigs, sticks, leaves and grass before constructing our chosen nests.

We were very pleased with the results and even had a visit from a little robin redbreast who we think looked very interested in moving into one of our fantastic nests!

Before heading back to school we returned all of our materials to the woodland and worked together to fold up our sheets and 'leave no trace'. Another fantastic forest school session complete!
